How To Disable Superfetch In Windows 10

Sometimes you have found an issue your laptop running very slow and there are os a windows service hat called superfetchcausing almost 100% CPU or Disk usage. in that case, if you disable Superfetch window services you can resolve that issue in windows computers. in that this post how to disable superfetch and prefetch on windows operating systems.

What are Superfetch and prefetch?

Superfetch is a Windows service that helps to speed up windows application launching by preloading the required data. In easy words, Superfetch caches program data that programs you frequently use into RAM so that they don’t have to be called from the hard drive every time you run them.
Prefetch also does the same, which helps to improve application launching. Especially, It stores information and necessary data of frequently used applications in the prefetch folder.


SuperFetch and Prefetch both are Windows Storage Management technologies that provide fast access to data on traditional hard drives.

Disable Superfetch Service

Press Windows + R for Run menu. 

When Run screen appears type services.msc and press enter.

scroll down and Find “Superfetch” on the list.

Right-click “Superfetch“, then select “Properties“.

Select the “stop” button if you want to stop the service

In the “Startup type” dropdown menu, choose “Disabled“.


Click apply and ok, Restart the computer and check if there is no more high Disk or CPU usage. 

Disable Prefetch

If you want to stop prefetch, you have to do it using the registry.

Press Windows + R for Run, 

When Run screen Appears type Regedit.msc and press enter

Navigate to the following registry key:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management \ PrefetchParameters

Double-click on EnablePrefetcher on the right side to open its DWORD value box.

If this value doesn’t exist, create EnablePrefetcher, right-click the “PrefetchParameters” folder, then choose “New” > “DWORD Value“ and Give name “EnableSuperfetch” 

The default value is 3. you want to disable Prefetch, set it to 0. Click OK and Exit.


Restart The Computer.
